Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the White House.
He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their memory.
The president said he’s talked about a White House visit for the families of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump addressed journalists. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Mourners gathered over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to assist public safety in the capital.
“Sarah was the individual that instructors hoped for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The incident led the administration to suspend asylum processing and temporarily stop issuing visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
The airman, a resident of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on Fox News Sunday that she aimed to meet with the family.
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with excellence, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” he told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
