Triple NBA MVP Nikola Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee as the Nuggets lost 147-123 at the Heat.
Jokic was hurt towards the end of the second quarter following an inadvertent coming together with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
The other player landed on the foot of the big man, and he promptly went down to the court grabbing his knee.
The 30-year-old, who leads the NBA this season in rebounds and assists, recorded 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to incurring the problem.
Jokic will undergo an MRI scan on Tuesday to assess the seriousness of the issue.
"Right away, Jokic realized there was a problem," stated Denver head coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Anyone who is injured, that's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as important as him. We will know more on Tuesday."
"The team will adjust together. Clearly, at this moment, I am focused just about him as a person and the disappointment of going through an event of that nature."
