The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received significant backing from management,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
The manager highlighted known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with results so bad.”
Jones finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to the top, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
